“Anthropocene & The Age of Consumption”

In the coming decades Earth’s inhabitants will have to demonstrate like never before – individually and collectively – the worldly intelligence and a sense of responsibility that, in principle, define them as human beings while our life-support planetary boundaries are being crossed.

The Anthropocene started as a proposed geological epoch but it has quickly developed into an existential planetary challenge beyond the preservation of our biosphere by representing disruption and convergence of technological, economic, cultural and psychological limits of human existence.

Whether the “Anthropocene” or “Capitalocene”, as some argue, will be followed by “the age of of less” and if future societies will be build on the sense of “being” rather than “having” or “pro-consuming”, we will leave it to philosophers and futurists.

Are expectations for technological solutions rather than cultural and structural socio-political transformations realistic? Can the consumerist basis and perpetual growth requirement of present macro-economic system really be addressed? Are there currently any alternative social innovations challenging this era of consumption?

Those and other questions will be discussed at debate followed by drinks.
