Arabeks + Loradeniz & Mosaic Man 

Radio TNP proudly presents its second screening of the year: ARABEKS. This intriguing and energetic documentary zooms in on one of the most important yet quirky genres in Turkish music: Arabesk.
Arabesk (or: Arabesque), the 1970s and ‘80s subculture of Turkey’s rural refugees, was possibly the country’s most influential pop cultural revolution, if it can even be referred to as pop culture. Its influence was not confined to music, but like hip-hop extended to an entire way of life. Classic Arabesk music has changed over the years, spawning genres and subgenres which are heard in a wide range of places in Istanbul, their place of origin: for Arabesk has blossomed into Turkish pop, the most popular kind of music in Turkey.

The screening is accompanied by hybrid set performed by Loradeniz and Mosaic Man, blending oriental soundscapes and Turkish forgotten records with live elements.

The screening and performance will take place in the garden of our home-base Cinetol, divided over two shifts. Ticket sale starts for shift 2 (30 tickets). Residents of the Diamantbuurt can attend for free. Sign up as a local resident via info@cinetol.nl.
