Chinese Music Salon: 沼泽 Zhaoze live performance in Amsterdam

Can the fusion of traditional Chinese music and contemporary western post-rock be beautiful and poetic?

On 30 May, Groningen Confucius Institute (GCI) and GAG will host a music salon with a live performance by Chinese post-rock band 沼泽Zhaoze. Zhaoze have been invited to present their unique musical style, distinguished by the combination of electrified Guqin (a traditional seven-stringed Chinese zither) and modern post-rock music.

沼泽 Zhaoze is een rockband uit Guangzhou, China, die een mix speelt van post-rock en progressieve rock. De stad Guangzhou telt ongeveer evenveel inwoners als Nederland en ligt tegen Hong Kong aan. Misschien dat hierdoor verschillende invloeden er sneller samensmelten. Zhaoze staat bekend om hun unieke sound, waarin de Guqin, een traditioneel Chinees snaarinstrument, een centrale plaats inneemt. De dromerige instrumentale muziek, afgewisseld met hevige uitbarstingen en klassieke elementen, doet denken aan Mogwai. Na een aantal wereldtournees treedt de band nu live op in Cinetol.
